Bernie has been married to Cheryl for 37 years and has two daughters
Ilana living in London and Georgina in Manchester.
After graduating Bernie qualified as a Chartered Accountant, soon after leaving to start a 28- year career with the breakfast cereal Kellogg Company.
Over the course of his career with them, Bernie held numerous roles rising to Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer serving on the European Board. Bernie also spent a couple of years in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier in his career too.
Since taking early retirement in 2009, Bernie has taken on a number of non-executive roles, various consulting assignments, in addition to immersing himself in a number of communal charitable endeavours.
Bernie is also currently Chairman of the Kellogg's Great Britain Pension Fund. He also served as non - executive director of Regatta Ltd, recently stepping down after 10 years from their board.
In 2010 Bernie joined the Board of Heathlands Village prior to its merger with The Fed becoming Hon Treasurer of the newly created Federation of Jewish Services. Bernie also serves as a Director and Treasurer of Manchester Maccabi. In 2014, Bernie together with 3 others founded NWFOI serving with the others on their Steering Group as well as their Treasurer. In November 2018 Bernie became Chair of The Fed taking over from Mark Adlestone.
A proud and passionate Zionist, he visits Israel at every opportunity where he also has a home. Other interests include running, watching Manchester United, collecting 60’s vinyl soul music and being somewhat of an amateur DJ with the Tel Aviv Soul Club.
